Community generosity came together in a big way at HabCenter’s 2nd Annual Chopstick Challenge, where a sold-out crowd helped more than double the event’s fundraising and in-kind support from its inaugural year.
Chaired by Palm Beach County philanthropist Denise Fraile, the Boca Raton event generated a 123% increase in fundraising and in-kind support, expanding resources for HabCenter programs serving individuals with intellectual and developmental differences and mental health challenges.
Fraile led an event committee that united philanthropy, business, education and community leaders around HabCenter’s mission, turning the second-year celebration into a powerful show of support.
“Philanthropy is at its most powerful when it brings people together around a purpose greater than themselves,” says Fraile. “This community came together in an extraordinary way for individuals whose voices and needs too often go unheard. More than doubling our support in only the second year is incredibly meaningful, because behind those numbers are real people who will have greater opportunities to build independence, discover their abilities and live with dignity.”
The evening was presented in partnership with Red Pine Restaurant, Wyndham Boca Raton and Farmer’s Table. Christine E. Lynn and the E.M. Lynn Foundation served as title sponsors.
Proceeds benefit HabCenter’s vocational training, Manufacturing Center and Plant Nursery, Honeybee program, PEAR and STEAM programming, therapeutic and clinical services and life-skills development.
“Every dollar raised helps us create meaningful opportunities for our vulnerable population to develop their abilities, build independence and experience the dignity and confidence that come from being an active and valuable member of their community,” says HabCenter CEO Sherry A. Henry.
The evening also celebrated culture and community, with Jerry Fedele, Lynn University Executive in Residence was named Fundraising Champion and Chopstick Challenge Winner. Thomas Moraca of Moraca Builders, Inc., received the Lifetime Service Award.
