Meet our clients and their sucess stories
This holiday season, join us in supporting our community as they work towards independence and growth. Your donations will help empower life-changing opportunities!
Taylor, who wanted to live independently, moved into his own apartment and worked in a plant nursery. However, he struggled with personal hygiene, money management, and apartment upkeep. He needed help with nutrition, socialization, finances, and depression despite his need for independence. Taylor thrived after transitioning to the group home. His life skills are being developed, and he is grateful for the support and companionship.
Leila, a client with autism spectrum disorder, joined HabCenter’s PEAR program. Initially enjoying coloring and puzzles, our staff encouraged her to explore knitting, jewelry making, and baking. As she excelled in these activities, she gained the workshop’s recommendation for placement. With our guidance, Leila started working half days, although she missed her friends and the routine of PEAR. Surprisingly, she advocated for her return, a significant step for her. With the support of PEAR staff, she now attends daily, even participating in sports and Zumba during the pandemic. Her newfound assertiveness and respectfulness towards staff highlight her progress, as she continues to push her boundaries with HabCenter’s encouragement.
Ian, a client at HabCenter, grappled with aggressive emotions and disappointment, often storming out of the center towards a busy road, causing concern for his safety. Social Services intervened, addressing his fears while teaching coping mechanisms. Initially doubting his employability, Ian’s confidence soared with therapy and intern support. Over a year, Ian cultivated a healthy relationship at HabCenter. Empowered by newfound self-worth, he pursued a GED and secured employment, departing in 2023. Ian’s transformation from feeling unworthy to empowered resonates deeply. His journey exemplifies the transformative impact of support and dedication, a testament to HabCenter’s mission of fostering independence. We celebrate Ian’s triumph and the enduring value of compassion.

Meet Our Volunteers
At HabCenter, our volunteers are the heart of our mission. They bring their passion, skills, and time to make a lasting impact. Here are a few of the incredible people who recently joined us:
“I look forward to my weekly Garden Club time at HabCenter. The clients always greet me with big smiles and excitement about our activity for the day. Spending time outside in the garden, hands in the soil, is therapeutic in so many ways. I love seeing the joy and wonder it brings to each individual. My experience at HabCenter has opened my eyes and heart in ways I could not have imagined. It has truly been a blessing to be able to volunteer somewhere that I receive even more than I give.” – Rachel helps with Plant Nursery and the Gardening/Cooking Program.
“I am a stay at home mom who was looking for an organization to volunteer my time with. My Dad, who is recently retired, expressed interest in volunteering with me, and after touring a few facilities we both agreed that we felt a connection to HabCenter. We volunteer in the nursery, and the clients energy and work ethic are amazing! We are always greeted with a smile, and I can speak for both of us when I say that the experience is even more rewarding than we could have imagined!” – Stephanie & Bob help with Plant Nursery and events.
“I am very happy to volunteer at the HabCenter, a place of love and dedication. It is a joy to support and help wonderful friends to develop their unique gifts in education, art, and recreation. Each day they shine with their accomplishments and warm each other with friendship. I am thankful for the moments we share together, for each of my friends holds a special place in my heart.” – Yarleni helps with the Fashion Program and teaches Spanish to clients.
